I'll build out from the PAD training strategy

Can I complete a half or full Ironman with a quadruple heart bypass. I noticed a man did so at age 70. Can I, with PAD and CABG, do it in my 80s?

I'm damn well going to try. I just have to combine all my previous experience, follow a strategy, and see how it goes.

Wish me luck!

Four Weeks Post-surgery

Looking pretty good, but the real struggle began, with a UTI and septicemia. You've just got to take what comes along, but that magic surgery, a quad bypass, saved my life, for sure.

Plus the support of some great nurses, including my partner, Sue. You don't do it alone!

Struggling to walk a 100 yards, but it was my first outing with Gizzy, who really missed me. Our other dogs are in Missouri, right now, as they are far to rambunctious. One jump of my chest would risk the incision site.

Adapt for perish. Time to fight my way back with regular walks, and eventually return to Ironman training.

It was remarkably exhausting to move, at first. Everything hurt. Lost about 20lbs., while in the hospital. Now it's time to build back, with great care. Moving is critical to recovery, which takes determination.

But then, I am an Ironman - laughs to himself - some Ironman.
