With the help of remarkable vascular (blood vessel) surgeons, and years of body movement training. Now, in spite of increasingly severe vascular disease (PAD), due to a genetic blood fat problem, I still undertake Ironman races, at age 80.
Train for aging, or end your days in a physical prison.
"If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same."

THAT'S ME AT AGE 80?
With two great athletes and friends, who like my informal approach to training.
Start with a body awareness (proprioceptive intelligence) assessment.
Life is best lived as a dance, not a duty or work, for heaven's sake. This certainly applies to swimming, where you escape gravity and the chatter of daily life, to enjoy the calming sounds of water around you, and flowing off your body. When I need to chill, the pool is the place for me, and I love those hot showers after a solid swim. Swimming is also one of the safest ways to get your heart rate up, to build cardiovascular endurance, and collaterals in your heart, believe it or not..
As a teenage water-polo player, I now incorporate swimming into my training, while signing up for a race keeps my "feet to the fire." Explore your options for an enjoyable and active old age.
People often ask my advice on training for aging, or simply how to overcome setbacks, such as injuries or surgery. They ask, "Can I return to my sport, and, if so, what is the best way to do it?"
Fortunately, I have both medical and body movement training, combined with a life-time of sports. This includes Yoga, Pilates, Gyrokinesis, and martial arts, plus 25 years competing in triathlons that I continue to this day, thanks to my studies of Feldenkrais. I've summed up my approach in the adjacent infographic..
